About this expansion

Carcassonne: Expansion 8 – Bridges, Castles and Bazaars is an expansion for 2–6 players, with a play time of about 45 minutes. Released in 2010, it adds three new options to the Carcassonne series.

Bridges let players continue a road over a field tile. This means an incomplete road can technically run into a field segment, while bridges are otherwise treated and scored just like roads.

Castle tokens are placed on top of cities made up of two segments. Once a castle is in place, it gives players a chance to cash in on the next completed adjacent feature, adding another way for nearby completions to matter.

Bazaars introduce a new type of tile and a tile-auction option. When a bazaar appears, players can auction off tiles in exchange for points, creating a distinct way to handle tiles during the game.

  • Bridges: Continue roads over field tiles and score them as roads.
  • Castles: Place tokens on two-segment cities for a chance to cash in on the next completed adjacent feature.
  • Bazaars: Auction off tiles in exchange for points.

These additions give Carcassonne: Expansion 8 – Bridges, Castles and Bazaars a focused set of new possibilities without changing its identity as part of the Carcassonne series. It is designed to be played as an expansion to the base game.
