About this expansion

Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #7 – The Grand Battles is an expansion for 2–8 players, with games lasting approximately 120 minutes. It adds large-scale scenarios, new units, expanded battlefields, and rules for iconic commanders to GMT’s Commands & Colors: Napoleonics game system.

The expansion includes 10 Grand Battle scenarios and 10 EPIC scenarios. Grand Battles use a battlefield 11 hexes deep by 26 hexes wide, supported by two mounted map boards—one left and one right. EPIC battles use an 11-by-20-hex battlefield, almost twice the size of a standard scenario battlefield.

Two extended-size Grand Battle scenarios are presented on a double-sided, preprinted paper map. Waterloo, 18 June 1815, and Borodino, 7 September 1812, each use an 11-by-28-hex battlefield with the terrain and unit deployments already printed in place.

  • British Highlanders
  • Russian Guard Cuirassiers
  • Austrian Militia Cavalry
  • New unit blocks and rules for fielding these units
  • New Iconic Commander rules recommended for EPIC and Grand Battle scenarios

The Grand Battles rules have been slightly modified from the version originally presented in EPIC Napoleonics Expansion #6. To play the battles included here, players need the Commands & Colors: Napoleonic core game along with many of its expansions, including Spanish Army, Russian Army, Austrian Army, Prussian Army, Generals, Marshals & Tacticians, and EPIC Napoleonics.

With its oversized maps and historically named battles, The Grand Battles provides a substantial expansion for players ready to stage larger Commands & Colors: Napoleonics engagements.
