Age of Steam Expansion: Congo/Sweden is a pair of two maps for 3–6 players, with a play time of approximately 180 minutes. Released in 2017, this expansion presents two distinctive scenarios for railway tycoons.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, fire has gotten terribly out of hand and is slowly enveloping the country in flames. The setting reflects the importance of agriculture, which contributes more than half of the country’s gross domestic product, as well as the widespread use of fire to clear forests and other natural vegetation for farmland.

This makes Congo a very challenging scenario for anyone attempting to fire up railway business there. The map’s defining situation is a country under pressure from spreading flames, creating a notably demanding environment for the players.

The Sweden map offers a very different system. Here, goods are continuously recycled into other goods, cycling onward until they eventually become garbage. That garbage is then fed into incinerators, giving the map a distinctive progression from goods to waste.

Sweden also features the WTE Plant Operator action. A timely use of this action can score bonus points for the player who catches the plant full of garbage, making timing especially important within this recycling-focused scenario.
