About this expansion

Carcassonne: Die Windrosen is a six-tile mini-expansion for Carcassonne, playable with 2–6 players. It introduces wind roses that define sections of the playing area and can provide bonus points without changing the normal influence of the landscape features.

A full wind rose is used as the new starting tile, dividing the playing area into four quarters: South-West, South-East, North-West, and North-East. The other full wind rose, with the regular Carcassonne tile back, is shuffled into the stack and can later redefine those four quarters.

  • One full wind rose serves as the new starting tile.
  • One blue full wind rose can redefine the four quarters.
  • Four orange quarter-rose tiles are shuffled into the tile stack.
  • A correctly placed quarter-rose tile is worth 3 bonus points.

Each orange quarter-rose tile corresponds to one quarter of the playing area. For example, the South-West rose tile earns its 3-point bonus when placed in the South-West quarter defined by the currently valid full wind rose. The roses otherwise have no effect on play.

Features on the tiles remain relevant, and any other points gained through the tile are scored as usual. This keeps the expansion focused on positioning and bonus opportunities while preserving the familiar Carcassonne experience.

Released at Modell-Hobby-Spiel 2012 in Leipzig, Carcassonne: Die Windrosen was obtained through a scavenger hunt that led attendees to the Carcassonne-on-Tour booth. It is part of the Carcassonne series.
